Lincolnshire is Bomber County.

During the Second World War, the county was home to dozens of RAF airfields and at the heart of Bomber Command operations. Research Chinagraph for long enough and Lincolnshire keeps appearing.

So, tomorrow I am going there.

The trip will centre on two places: the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln and the RAF Waddington Heritage Centre.

At the IBCC, I am particularly interested in the personal stories behind the wider history. Chinagraph is built around photographic interpretation, but I don't want it to feel like a sequence of anonymous wartime puzzles. Those individual stories can add humanity to the game.

Waddington will offer something different: my first visit to an active RAF base, a fascinating collection and the opportunity to learn from the volunteer servicemen who run its Heritage Centre. I will be looking particularly at workflows, objects, equipment and the small details that books and photographs don't always explain.

There is also a more personal stop along the way.

The journey takes me through Nottingham, an important landmark in my own history.

That is another story.

Next stop: Nottingham. Then Lincoln.
